SHE
“Oh god, she is crazy, wild. That girl! You want to get to that girl! Well, you’re going to have to do something very interesting. She is all over the place. I don’t really understand her, but I do support her. Eccentric, strange, weird. I can’t really tell what’s going on. But I do want to be with her every minute. Do something creative. Some kind of project or work. A job.”
“Well, she does this and that.” They leaned over the boat together drinking while the fish cooked on the grill attached to the side of the sailboat.
“She is pushing herself so hard in all these different directions. Her? She is not human. Alien?” They laughed.
“What did you accomplish today?” (She asked HER)
“Oh, the list is so long.”
“Where are you going?”
(Under her breath) “Don’t ask her. Because she doesn’t know.”
“Her? She is like a racehorse. Ready to pounce in any direction full speed. It does not matter where, just that she is fast.”
They walked together to the other side of the boat, refilling their drinks and stepping softly in boat shoes on the irregular deck. Leaning together, laughing, seriously trying to figure her out. One ocean swell to the left and they almost fell catching themselves on a silver railing. She noticed a small window on the deck that looked down into the cabin. They both stooped down to peek.
“Look, it’s her!”
She was using the toilet with her pants down, hunched over her legs. He peered in and opened the hatch, sticking his head down to inspect her further. To even smell her.
“Him? He keeps her grounded.”
“Are you fucking insane? You’re going to pretend you didn’t do that? “
“Let me get you both dinner. You look hungry.”
“The line between reality and fantasy has been crossed. I am proud of you. You’re not ok.”
She served them flesh and considered jumping overboard. “I’m not going to listen.”
“I stand by my ground. Or the ocean- or whatever else I can rise above.”
